So why Africa and why Kenya and Tanzania? Everybody wants to see the BIG FIVE- I always thought that was Lions, Giraffes, Elephants, Rhinos, and Hippos. The big animals! Ha! Well, who knew it was lions, water buffalo, elephants, leopards, and rhinos? So of course Africa- strange creatures that you only see in zoos and watch in movies like “The Ghost and The Darkness” (besides watching to see Val Kilmer!). But only in Kenya and Tanzania can you see this wild mad rush of Wildebeests and zebras run in circles following the rain cycle for grasslands to graze.
We’ve all seen it in The Lion King……. I envision it like shrinking to the size of a pin head and throwing myself into a sea of ants. The only thing I’ve seen that many of at one time are….well…..people….especially at a really good sale like the ones on Black Friday! Ha! (Probably just as dangerous too!).
The best time to see this spectacle? The 2 times they cross the 2 rivers- the Grumeti and the Mara. We will be there in late June- around the time of the Grumeti River crossing, but there is no way to predict their timing every year. We will definitely see the herd migrations. So watch for my postings! I promise no bad killing pics. I’ll be in the jeep crying no doubt….hopefully nothing more foolish than that. 😂😂😂
