Kenya is on the equator and borders Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia. It became a republic in 1963 from Britain. Ahhh- so there is the Becky connection!!!!! It has a population of about 48 million. Remember when I went to China? Shanghai was about 25 million people- So 2 cities of Shanghai is about the whole country of Kenya. Kenya grows coffee, tea, flowers for Europe, and has a huge service industry. The major Wildlife parks in Kenya we will be visiting are: Amboseli National Park, Maasai Mara, Aberdares National Park, and Ngorongoro. What do Kenyans speak? Swahili and English- British English of course. ; ). Thank you very much in Swahili is “Asante Sana”- remember that from Lion King!!?!? Hello is “Habari”. Hmmmmm- I think there are a few phrases that will be key for me:
“Je, si kusikiliza na yeye, mimi nina katika malipo.” Which means—-” Don’t listen to him, I’m in charge.” And
“Haraka, kuchukua kadi yangu ya mkopo kabla ya anaona sisi”. Which means—-“Quick, take my credit card, before he sees us!”
That ought to be enough to get me through the trip. ; ). Hahahahaha!
